One woman was taken to Lawrence General Hospital after an Amtrak Downeaster train hit her car at the Railroad Street crossing in Andover Saturday.

Police found a BMW X1 with significant front-end damage when they responded around 9:20 a.m. No one on the train was injured. Surveillance video from a nearby business and broadcast by NBC 10 Boston, shows the car stopped on the tracks and waiting to enter the intersection. When the gates came down, the woman tried to back up the car going over the track as the safety gates come down.

The car was unable to back up in time and was spun around by the impact of the train:.

The crash comes less than two months after an 85-year-old man was hit and killed by a Downeaster train. Zhongli Zhang, of Railroad Street, was walking around 4:30 p.m. on July 27 and waited for a southbound MBTA train to pass. As he crossed the tracks, he was hit by a northbound Amtrak Downeaster train passing through Andover immediately after the southbound train cleared the Railroad and Essex Street junction.
